What is Server Shield and How to Use It
Server Shield is a BaseZap specific security product designed to block all traffic on the server. It is particularly useful for clients who require a complete lockdown of the server or have recurring Denial of Service (DoS) attack problems.
Benefits of Using Server Shield
- Enhanced Security: Server Shield provides a complete lockdown of the server, protecting it from unauthorized access and potential threats.
- DoS Attack Prevention: By blocking all traffic except for whitelisted IPs, Server Shield helps mitigate the risk of Denial of Service attacks.
- Temporary Access: The ability to whitelist IPs temporarily allows for controlled access to cPanel and FTP when needed, without compromising overall server security.
Once the Server Shield setup is in place, you can use the following guide to whitelist your IP temporarily to access cPanel or FTP. The whitelist is valid for a period of 24 hours.
Whitelisting Your IP via Client Area
- First, login to your account to access the client area.
- Go to Services » My Services.
- Click on “Server Shield” under My Products & Services.
- Click on “Manage Firewall”.
- In the IP Address Field, enter the IP address you want to whitelist. You can get your IP address by visiting https://whatismyipaddress.com
- Please enter the reason for whitelisting the IP address in the Allow Reason field.
- Click on Add Temporary Allow.
- You will get a confirmation that the IP has been allowed on this server for 24 Hours.
Whitelisting Your IP via Email
You can also whitelist your IP through Email. To do that:
- Please click on Temporary Allow IP by Email.
- Enter the recipient name and recipient email address.
- Click on Send Email.
- You’ll get a confirmation on screen when the email is sent.
- Check your email inbox.
- You’ll get a URL to whitelist your IP address.
- The URL will be valid for 365 days, you may click it for 10 times in that time frame.
Checking Whitelisted IPs and Email Keys
To check the list of whitelisted IPs, click on Whitelisted IPs. This will show you the list of IP addresses which have been temporarily allowed to access the cPanel and FTP. You’ll also be able to see when the IP was whitelisted and the expiry date and time of the whitelist status.
To check the list of Email Keys currently valid, you can click on Email Keys. You will be able to see the recipient, expiration date, number of times the link can be used for whitelisting an IP address and its status.
